Cruzeiro Seixas exhibition at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris

It opens on World Portuguese Language Day, May 5th.

Unesco Headquarters in Paris opens on May 5th, World Portuguese Language Day, the exhibition “Cruzeiro Seixas – Stubbornness in being Poetry” organized by the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation.

 

The exhibition, initially scheduled for 2020, the year of the artist's centenary, simultaneously marked the first World Portuguese Language Day. It was postponed due to the contingencies associated with the Covid 19 pandemic and it is now presented on the same date, two years later.

 

As part of this event, the CPS published the screen print “Runas of the Future City - Homage to Mário de Sá Ram” which appears in the poster image, released at the time and now sold out. The then Portuguese Ambassador to UNESCO, António Sampaio da Nóvoa, was involved in the genesis of this screen printing, followed by the enthusiastic Director of FCM, Marlene Oliveira. The edition resulted from one of the artist's most emblematic series, the pen drawings, absolutely remarkable for this discipline in the context of 21st century Portuguese art. XX. This is an exhibition that represents “the realization of an artist’s dream: to have a solo exhibition in Paris, with works, documents and tapestry”, indicated Marlene Oliveira, She is also the curator of the exhibition, on the work of Cruzeiro Seixas.

 

Marlene Oliveira also said that the exhibition will show the connection between Cruzeiro Seixas' work and the literature and science Portuguese language, through writers he clearly admired, such as Fernando Pessoa, Teixeira de Pascoaes and Mário de Sá-Carneiro, in addition to letters attributed to Mariana Alcoforado.

 

The director of the CPS, João Prates, adds: «Year and a half after the departure of Cruzeiro Seixas, we are left with the consolation of witnessing his legitimate international recognition, the sad longing and the urgency of his surrealist ethical thinking: “I always hope that, when I talk to people, they adhere to the passion that is mine, for art. Because I don't see, within the scheme of current life, that there is any other way of being led to an idea of freedom and complete satisfaction that is true. what is desirable for Man.”»
