FANTASIES AND THE THEATER OF MEMORY João Paulo (Arganil, 1929), discreet artist, took the sculpture course at ESBAL and received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in painting in 1965. In 1967 receives the National Painting Prize (formerly with Nadir Afonso). His CV includes dozens of exhibitions in Portugal and abroad. Of particular note is the exhibition at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 1974 and at the Oriente Foundation in 2010. It traced a path of great authenticity and genuine attention to the problem ;the images of his dreamy spirit and lover of the forms and myths that fueled the art of all times. These appear uninvited in the impetus of an unconscious that resurrects the universe of ancient stories of knights and princesses, of nymphs, dragons and hoaxers where, in the end, nimbuses of magical charm are reconstituted, our prophecies. own experiences.
