About the work of Joséé de Guimarães, writes Maria João Fernandes, art critic (AICA – International Assoc. of Art Critics):

“ The artist has always paid special attention to art. graphic work, giving it a remarkable quality that the present edition, inspired by the «Message» by Fernando Pessoa, also documents. Screen printing accompanies and expresses the formal and poetic aspects of its universe, marked by a joy and exuberance that evoke primitive art. A kind of dance of aspects, where through the fragmentation and movement of forms, accentuated by vibrant primary colors, a lost, paradisiacal totality is reconstituted, the sense of hope and the sense of hope. what the poem talks about, against the black background of an ancestral and fatal longing. The hidden presence of poetry and myth, feeding the intricacies of civilization, which Guimar´es also reveals, with humor and the fantasy of the combinatorial game of its colorful forms that seem inexhaustible like the forms of the world.”

“The work of Guimarães in the various expressions it assumes, painting, engraving, sculpture, assemblage, is unique. first and foremost a language, it is based on the desire to communicate, which in his case was fulfilled in the dissemination that the painter carried out by his own hands, of his work, abroad, becoming He is our most international artist. This is proven by the many exhibitions he has held, individual and collective, in several countries in Europe, China, Japan and Mexico and his impressive bibliography that includes prestigious foreign authors. The French state, the Belgian state, Museums in S. Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the Akemi Foundation in Japan, the European Parliament and the Serralves Foundation have acquired his works.”

“Through a totalizing and original language, Guimarães brings together the unconscious and the conscious, the archaic world and the contemporary world, presenting us, like all great artists, a coherent alternative and inexhaustible to the real, to reality. one-dimensional society of contemporary alienation. É This is the universal nature of his work, which makes it a unique case of the «latest trends in art today» (Gillo Dorfles).”
