Cruzeiro Seixas (1920-2020)

The light of dream has extinguished

The light of dream has extinguished. Those who love Freedom without borders are sad, those who see in Culture a way of sublimating existence, those who delight in the Poetry of gesture, of lines, of forms. In the light that illuminates the shadows.

The prince of Surrealism, Cruzeiro Seixas, is gone, and with him, a time, an ultimate generation. We are left with the record of his prodigious imagination in order to continue to preserve a new dream: what is born in the future gaze of each one.

"Today is a very sad day. Cruzeiro Seixas is no longer with us. Cruzeiro Seixas which I met at the beginning of the São Bento Gallery in 1984 and from whom I did the second CPS screenprint. An irreverent surrealist and a fabulous painter and a poet of words and images. From painting, drawing, illustration, creation of objects or scenarios for ballet companies, Cruzeiro Seixas, always aspired to give three dimensions to his projects, which justified the edition of numerous sculpture multiples by my Gallery. Here his first individual exhibition, exclusively on collages, took place, affirming this technique and inspiring the subsequent exhibitions at CPS, where he used the color test proofs of his own screenprints. A unique, brilliant and inspiring being who deserved and deserves all my admiration and friendship."

António Prates, CPS Founder

"We developed a fruitful collaboration that placed him as the artist most edited by CPS and allowed me to expand my astonishment and friendship, for such a prodigious surrealist creator. (...) Artur, the artist, the human being, the poet, all my admiration, friendship and immense gratitude for all these years of sharing and learning. For the possibility of including Dream in the horizon of life, always precious."

João Prates, CPS Director
