Tribute to José Saramago

Exhibition "Mulheres Saramaguianas" with CPS editions presented in Berlin

As part of the celebrations of the centenary of Joseph; Saramago, the Galeria do Camões Berlin opens today, April 12th, at 6pm, the exhibition “Mulheres Saramaguianas” , an initiative of the José Saramago and the Portuguese Screen Printing Center that pays tribute to the writer and Nobel Prize winner for Portuguese Literature.

 

The following will be followed by: a reading-debate, in German, about the female figure in the work of José Saramago, with literary translators Sarita Brandt and Markus Sahr.

It will be A glass of Portuguese wine will be served at the beginning of the event.

The “Mulheres Saramaguianas” is part of the Official Program for the Centenary of the Birth of Joseph; Saramago. This is a special edition of previously unpublished screen prints and engravings by Portuguese artists, accompanied by texts, also unpublished, by Portuguese-speaking writers, with a limited edition.

 

Each artist and writer duo corresponds to a female character from the Saramaguian universe, those who, according to Fernando Gómez Aguilera, could be understood “as shining incarnations of the best of the human condition”. Of the countless characters created by Joséé Saramago, the selection focused on Blimunda, Joana Carda, Gracinda Mau-Tempo, Maria Sara, deathandthe doctor's wife. Going beyond reading the text and the mere purpose of its illustration, there will be other paths, interpretations and representations that will emerge from these new perspectives on these " ;Saramaguian women”. In a mix of generations, sensibilities and artistic territories, the following were invited:

Ana Romãozinho and Adriana Lisboa  — Maria Sara

Joana Villaverde and Ana Margarida Carvalho — doctor's wife

 

The exhibition will be open. patent until on May 9th and can be visited from Tuesday to Friday, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
