CPS joined Sail Against Plastic, a multidisciplinary project that brings together scientists, artists, photographers and filmmakers on an expedition - A MESSAGE FROM THE ARTIC - to unravel the threat of invisible pollution in the Arctic Ocean.
We opened CPS Studio to one of the members of the expedition, Flávia Pinto, Portuguese artist and printmaker, activist and designer on the expedition, for the fulfillment of some artworks whose sales made by Sail Against Plastic, revert to the ecological project.
The result of this collaboration was materialized in two engravings and a lithography on two paper variants, a set that well illustrates the mission of this trip to the Arctic.
The threat is real
We saw - I saw - polyester strings at the foot of a polar bear. Plastics floating next to glaciers. Bottle caps and leftover cotton buds on beaches never inhabited before. Whales, walruses, and Arctic terns. Reindeers grazing on beaches covered with cigarette butts.
This garbage does not disappear, no matter how much it is broken down into smaller particles. It is everywhere, in all oceans, and where it has never been thrown away. And we bring a message from the North of the globe: responsibility is global, as are the consequences. We have to work together, for everything and for everyone.
