In Van Zeller's present work, against a nocturnal background, the mystical sensuality of an evocative image of Saint Teresa of Ávila expands, a picture of an excess and an intensity of close emotions of the Baroque with which the tormented and suffering figure of S. Sebastião is associated. The overlapping of planes enriches the composition and deepens the mystery of the contrast between the splendid light that the figures radiate and the shadows in the background. Mystery is further accentuated by the counterpoint between the mystical universe and the cultural references that correspond to them and by the presence of explosive and unpredictable forms of nature.
