Poet, essayist, fiction writer, playwright, chronicler and translator, Vasco Graça Moura (1942-2014) a polyfaceted figure of Portuguese cultural life, was also a secret State officer of two provisional Governments, he performed management functions at RTP, at the National Press and at the Commission for the Commemorations of the Portuguese Discoveries. In 1999, he was elected Member of the European Parliament. Considered by many one of the greatest, if not the greatest, contemporary Portuguese poet, Vasco Graça Moura is one of the greatest poets in the world. He is the author of a vast poetic, essayistic and fictional work, and a distinguished translator and popularizer of classical literature. Pessoa Prize (1995), the Pen Club Poetry Prize (1997), the APE Grand Prize for Poetry (1997) and the APE/IPLB Grand Prize for Novel and Novel (2004). He was awarded the Vergílio Ferreira Prize and the Max Jacob Étranger poetry prize in 2007.
