José Cordeiro

Born in 1942, in São Paulo, Brazil.  Visual artist, painter and engraver exhibited for the first time in 1966, at the 15th edition of the 1960s. Paulista Salon of Modern Art. He studied painting with professor Nelson Nóbrega at the Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado, in São Paulo and engraving with Paulo Menten at the Núcleo dos Gravadores de São Paulo. In addition, he also completed the Art History course at the University of São Paulo, taught by Prof. Walter Zanini. In 1974 he founded the RodArt engraving team and in 1980 he participated in the first collective exhibition in Naples, Italy. In 1983, together with his wife, the artist Edna de Araraquara, he created the Casa de Arte Brasileira. In 1990 he moved to Portugal with his wife, returning to Brazil only in 2009. In 2011 he celebrated 45 years of career,  having exhibited since 1966 and participated in more than 360 collective and individual exhibitions in several countries, namely Brazil, Portugal, USA, Chile, Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain, Luxembourg, Yugoslavia via, Japan, England, France, Cape Verde, Belgium, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates. He also received several awards, gold, silver, bronze medals and honorable mentions. He passed away in 2013.
