Jaime Silva

Born in Peso da Régua, in 1947. graduated from the Escola Superior de Belas Artes do Porto in 1972, was the founder of the Puzzle Group with eight other artists and an art critic in 1975. He received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Paris (1977 and 1978), and professor of Painting at Ar.Co (1983/87), Lisbon. It belongs to the governing bodies of the National Society of Fine Arts, Lisbon and since 1987 it has been a member of the Society of Fine Arts. Professor responsible for the Painting Course at S.N.B.A. – Lisbon. From 1999 onwards it is Artistic Director of the Montijo Municipal Gallery and in 2006 Founder of Grupo Três, Lisbon. He was a member of the jury for several exhibitions, including: “1984 – The future is already today?” F.C. Gulbenkian, Lisbon; D. Fernando II Prize, Sintra; Montijo Art Biennial – Vespeira Prize. He was curator of several exhibitions, including: “13 Artists/Arte Digital”, Lisbon (2006); “New Symbologies/Action and Limits”, Montijo (2006). He received the medal of merit awarded by the Municipal Council of Peso da Régua. He has been exhibiting individually since 1976. In 1992, at Galeria Gonfilarte in Vila Praia de Âncora, the exhibition was on display: “Ten years of Painting 1976/86”. Your work is represented, among others, in the Collections of the State Secretariat for Culture, Lisbon; the Center for Modern Art, F. C. Gulbenkian, Lisbon; from Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Lisbon; at the Casa Museu Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves, Lisbon; and the Chambers of Peso da Régua and Almada.
