Born in Lisbon in 1929, Augusto Barros died in the same city in 1997.

He held his first solo exhibition in 1959 at Palácio Foz, in Lisbon. In 1961, he was awarded a grant by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Hamburg. In 1963, he settled in Paris, where he remained until the early 1990s.

Throughout his life, he became friends with "historical artists" such as Poliakoff, Delaunay, Man Ray, Vieira da Silva and Gonçalo Duarte. It was also in 1963 that the artist held his first solo exhibition in Paris, surrounded by enormous success and widely referenced in the specialist press.

Averted to any aesthetic current, Barros limited himself to following his instinct and poetic sense. Nevertheless, Poliakoff was an assumed reference in the most diverse domains. Represented in the main European museums, Augusto Barros' work is spread across many important national and international private collections.
