Launch of an unprecedented engraving of Malangatana

The CPS will release an unpublished engraving of Malangatana entitled "Khanimambo Baka Ngwenya II", on April 12th, at 6.30 pm, in its gallery at the CCB, in collaboration with the Malangatana Foundation.
The artwork, which was done in the author's lifetime, is certified by CPS and the Malangatana Foundation and will have a special launch price.
The event will be attended by the son of the painter and administrator of the Malangatana Foundation, Mutxhini Malangatana Ngwenya and will take place as part of the tribute to the artist by the University of Minho, which premieres on April 6, the documentary "On the Malangatana Trail: from legacy to memory "produced by the Virtual Museum of Lusofonia.

 

 

Malangatana, who died in 2011 at the age of 74, was one of the most prominent Mozambican artists, having become a renowned and recognized artist worldwide. He left a vast work that includes painting, sculpture, poetry, engraving, ceramics and tapestry. He has held numerous exhibitions in Mozambique and Portugal but also abroad, in Germany, Austria and Bulgaria, Chile, Brazil, Angola and Cuba, the United States, India. He has murals in Maputo and Beira, South Africa and Swaziland, but also in countries like Sweden or Colombia. Malangatana was one of the creators of the National Museum of Art of Mozambique, named Artist for Peace (UNESCO), received the medal of the Order of Infante D. Henrique and he was awarded the honorary doctorate, in 2010, in Évora.
