Mário Alberto
Born in Africa in 1925, in Angola, son of Alentejo parents, he was raised in Alentejo and lived much of his life in Lisbon, in Parque Mayer. Painter and renowned set designer. He was a disciple of Master Pinto de Campos, in Portugal, and of Masters Yves Brayer and Henri Goetz, at the Academie La Grand Chaumière, in Paris, he was a painter, set designer, costume designer in Theatre, Cinema and Television.
He was co-founder of the theater groups Ádoque and A Barraca, Mário Alberto and was one of the main people responsible for the renewal of "Revista à Portuguesa" started with "O Fim da Macacada", at Teatro ABC, in the early 70s of the 20th century. Throughout his career he was also a professor of Scenography, at the Almada Theater Company and at the Chapitô Circus School.
Man connected to the Cultura held several individual and group exhibitions. His works are representedin the collection of the Theater Museum, in Lisbon, and in many national and foreign collections.
His last work for theater was the scenographic direction of "Tem a Palavra a Revista", which premiered at Maria Vitória in 2000, with scenarios by António Casimiro, Avelino do Carmo, Eduardo Cruzeiro, Jorge Rosa, Juan Soutullo, Luís Furtado, Mário Alberto, Moniz Ribeiro and Octávio Clérigo.
He was married several times, one of which was to the actress Maria do Céu Guerra.
In 2002, his photobiography O IVAngelho II Mário Alberto was published.

He was awarded several awards, of which we highlight: in 1971 - Scenography Award from Casa da Imprensa, 1990 - Honoree of the Year at the Festival of Theater of Almada, in 1994/95- Scenography Award from the Portuguese Association of Critics-"Valente Soldado Schveik" and in the year 2000 - "Pateota" Trophy, given at the Festa do Teatro, Páteo Alfacinha, Lisbon.
He passed away in Lisbon, in 2011.
