REAL AND DREAM-LIKE LANDSCAPES

The work of João Hogan (1914-1988), one of the greatest painters of the second half of the 20th century in Portugal, evolved from 1942, the year of his first exhibition. is, under the sign of landscaping with a long naturalist tradition at national level, but which in its case is modernized by integrating the constructive vision of Cézanne and the expressionist vigor of the Belgian painter Constant Permeke (1986 -1952) with which I share the "muffled" coloring and powerful forms. In her graphic work, the connection to the fantastic and the surreal, of which the work presented here is an example, is accentuated.
