Opening: November 18th, Saturday, from 4pm Helena Abreu, artist from Porto with national recognition, painter, engraver, author of drawing textbooks, saw her work distinguished with several awards in Portugal and abroad (Rodrigues Júnior Prize in 1945 and 1946, Honorable Mention at the Salon des Artistes in 1978 and 1980 and admission to the Salon des Artistes Français). Awarded the silver medal by the Porto City Council, her work was presented in a notable retrospective at the Paos do Concelho de Matosinhos. Graduated from the Porto School of Fine Arts (drawing and painting), she studied painting and fresco with Master Dórdio Gomes. His training is evident in his work, in his mastery of drawing revealing itself in a very personal language of luminous transparencies. From the text of the catalog written by Maria João Fernandes we highlight: "In the lithographs presented, the artist engraves directly on the nobility of the lithographic stone the fluid and rigorous lines that emerge with the density of the shadows and the characteristic lightness of her style, where the poeticized image of women dominates, which today once again touches and dazzles us, in its dramatism and everyday sweetness. They characterize her painting and the serigraphic expression that results from it, the delicacy of line and the softness of her palette, composing the multiple portraits of the woman, the center of a world of clear vibrations, subtle movements and magically diluted tones. In the economy of cold tones, sea blues and greens , creates images of a serene and secret lyricism for a universe in the feminine, metaphor of a poetic sensitivity receptive to miracle and transfiguration. Transparency, sweetness, lightness characterize this universe, landscapes for a fascinating reverie that has women as its driving motif. The two white doves serenely resting on the lap of the female figure, highlighted in one of the works, are indicators of a birth that inspires peace and a contemplative attitude. Birth or rebirth of the soul, thirsty for freedom and beauty, which women, and the sensitive forces of nature, represent in Helena Abreu's painting and graphic work as a whole. The current exhibition once again affirms the poetic quality and technical refinement of a language dedicated to revealing the fascination and musical tranquility that preside over this world.
