Maria Gabriel

Born in Lisbon in 1937 and began her activity as a painter and engraver in 1959. She studied engraving at Gravura in 1967/68 where she developed the intaglio technique in wood engraving, with the help of a grant from the Fundaçã ;Calouste Gulbenkian. From 1976 to 1978 he did several internships at the Hochschule Für Bildende Kunst in Hamburg, attending the lithography section. He obtained a grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to write, in partnership with the painter Alice Jorge, the book “Techniques of Artistic Engraving”, published with the support of the Ministry of Culture in 1986. He developed various activities in teaching artistic engraving techniques, organizing collective exhibitions and illustrating children's books.
