João Ayres

Born in Lisbon, in 1921. He studied architecture at the School of Fine Arts of Lisbon and Porto. He lived and worked for 30 years in the Municipality of Sintra in the house he designed and built. In 1946 he moved to Lourenço Marques. Neorealist painter, he held his first solo exhibition in 1949, which was followed by many others and also several group exhibitions. You are represented in the Museums of Modern Art of S. Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, in the collections of the Municipal Chamber of Lourenço Marques and at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. His last public exhibition was at the Galeria Municipal de Fitares, in the year 2000, when the artist was already an artist. When he was 80 years old, he then received the silver medal of municipal merit awarded by the Municipal Council of Sintra. Later, the same municipality paid him a heartfelt posthumous tribute, handing over the municipal medal of merit, gold grade, to the municipality. his widow in 2003.
