João Antas

Born in Lisbon, in 1943. In the 60s he studied painting at the National Society of Fine Arts. He graduated in Civil Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico, in 1966. Later he moved to Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) and dedicated himself to engineering. painting full-time from 1982 onwards, especially in 1983, after a prolonged stay in New York.
In 1991 he competed for the first Triennale in Osaka (Japan) where he would be distinguished with the Acquisition prize for the collection of the "Osaka Foundation of Culture". In 1991 he settled permanently in Lisbon, in the old Bairro da Sé, where he lives and has his studio. He has held individual and group exhibitions in Portugal and abroad.
