Gerardo Rueda

Born in Madrid in 1926. He studied Law, and at the same time began self-taught in painting. Painter, sculptor and engraver, he had his first exhibition in Madrid, in 1949, at the gallery of La Revista de l'Occidente, and in 1960 he represented Spain at the XXX Venice Biennale. Rueda has temporarily settled in Cuenca since the beginning of the sixties. In 1969, with Toner and Fernando Zóbel, he founded the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art in Cuenca and in 1995 he founded the museum. named member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. He develops several monumental works, such as the mural for the Museo de Escultura al Aire Libre de la Castellana, the stained glass windows for the Cuenca Cathedral or the access doors to the Spanish Pavilion at the Seville Universal Exhibition.  From 1994 onwards, he held a large retrospective exhibition, which toured the main national museums in South America. Present in numerous museums and public collections around the world. In 1996 the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM) held what would be His last exhibition in life. After his death, his collages were shown at the Museu Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, a traveling exhibition in several museums in Europe and America. In 2000 his work was published. presented, retrospectively, in several Italian cities.

He passed away on May 25, 1996, in Madrid.
