António Palolo

António Palolo was born in Évora in 1946.

Self-taught, he held his first exhibition in 1964, at Galeria 111 in Lisbon. In 1968 he was part of the "Exposição de Arte Portuguesa", Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Madrid, Paris and Brussels. He has exhibited in various museums abroad and his major retrospective was held at the Modern Art Centre of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 1995.

A reference artist in the history of Portuguese art, he has marked successive artistic conjunctures since the beginning of his career in the mid-1960s. This artist, known essentially for his production in painting and drawing, the cinematographic experiences he developed between 1969 and 1978, as well as the video works he made between 1977 and the beginning of the 80s, remain practically unknown.

António Palolo is represented in important public and private collections as well as in important museums. He passed away in 2000.
